Garrett VNT-17 Turbocharger (A4 ALH)

Factory fresh VNT-17 turbos from Garrett. These are the OEM turbo on the European 150hp 1.9L TDI equipped Volkswagens. The VNT-17 is an upgrade from the original VNT-15 turbo allowing you to run higher boost levels and, many believe, providing superior durability. The VNT-17 bolts directly up to the head, but requires an adapter for the compressor output to match up with the stock inter-cooler pipes.

Price includes installation hardware (gaskets, washers, nuts). There is no core charge required on this turbo.

Factory fresh VNT-17 turbos from Garrett made for the PD engine in A4 cars (engine code BEW). The VNT-17 is a significant upgrade from the original Borg-Warner KP-39 turbo, allowing you to run higher boost levels and, many believe, providing superior durability. This turbo was original equipment on the PD150 Jetta and Golf in Europe. The VNT-17 bolts up exactly like the stock turbo, fits the stock exhaust flange, and does not require an adapter pipe to the intercooler. Installing this turbo requires modifying your EGR cooler pipe or deleting the EGR cooler. We offer a block-off plate and new coolant hose to delete the cooler.

The turbo comes with complete installation hardware, and there is no core charge required on this turbo.

This hybrid turbo is the best of both worlds. The plug and play manifold of a VNT-17, the responsiveness of a smaller turbo, and the improved air flow of a VNT-22.

The 17/22 uses the VNT-17 exhaust, manifold, and actuator, and the compressor from the VNT-22. This provides faster spooling than a stock 17, and far better low-RPM torque than a larger turbo. This turbo can easily run boost up to 26 PSI.

This is a high performance turbo intended to be used in TDIs that have, at minimum, upgraded nozzles, exhaust, and tuning. Ideally, it should be combined with a higher pressure injection pump and improved charge air cooling (intercooler).

These hybrids are assembled from all new parts from one of Garrett’s largest distributors/service centers. They are balanced and tested, and come with a full warranty against manufacturing defects.

This turbo will bolt right up to the manifold and exhaust, requiring only minor heat shield changes (can be done by hand during installation). Price includes assembly gaskets, washers, and nuts. The stock intercooler hose can be stretched over the turbo’s compressor exit, but this should be fitted to the turbo before installing the turbo in the car.

This turbo includes the latest, correct smart actuator from Garrett

This hybrid turbo is the best of both worlds. The plug and play manifold of a VNT-17, the responsiveness of a smaller turbo, and the improved air flow of a VNT-22 compressor.

The 17/22 uses the VNT-17 exhaust, manifold and the compressor from the VNT-22. This provides faster spooling than a stock 17, and far better low-RPM torque than a larger turbo. This turbo can easily run boost up to 26 PSI. This version of the hybrid includes the PD actuator with electronic feedback.

This is a high performance turbo intended to be used in TDIs that have at minimum, upgraded exhaust, and tuning. It can be combined with larger injectors and improved charge air cooling (intercooler).

You must purchase the EGR cooler pipe to keep your EGR cooler connected. Customers with the EGR deleted do not need the pipe.

If you have stock intercooler piping this turbo requires a new compressor exit hose from the A4 ALH engine, shown below.

If you have a stock intake from the airbox you’ll have to replace the reducing turbo inlet hose with a piece of straight hose.
